Miss Gemma (Principle)
Gemma began her Dance Training at the Amanda Mcglynn school of Dance at the very young age of just 2 and a half.
Expressing her passion and talent she moved on to the prestigious and renowned Val Armstrong Dance Academy in Hartlepool where she spent a large portion of her Dance childhood learning the art in all its forms.
Completing her training at The Craggs school of Dance, another well-established North East Dance school, Gemma began to perform in many shows particularly at the prestigious Forum Theatre where she regularly performed in Christmas Pantomimes and was also accredited with a role in The Nutcracker alongside the English Youth Ballet.
Learning and mastering most genres of Dance including Ballet, Tap, Acro, Contemporary Modern, Musical Theatre amongst more, Gemma quickly became known on the Northern circuit including at Cabaret and Championship level winning multiple accolades for
her passion and delivery in Dance.
As well as existing Qualifications, Gemma regularly studies multiple genres of dance with the NCDTA and Exam
opportunities are available to all students.
Now a mum herself, Gemma has orchestrated and aided the development of her own children, most notably her eldest
daughter who regularly competes in competitions and championships and is a regular amongst the elite in supreme finals
within the North of England.
At 36, Gemma’s real passion is passing on her knowledge and talent to youngsters, teaching inexperienced and
experienced dancers to have the confidence to shine.
Regardless of ability, Gemma’s patience and philosophy is for her students to be the best that they can be.
She regularly enters her students into competitions to experience circuit life and is a big believer in giving everybody t
he same opportunities.
Miss Jaz (Vice Principle)
Jaz graduated from Northern Ballet in Manchester after focusing on the Jazz course qualifying with a level 6
trinity diploma in professional Dance alongside her DDE in Ballet. Having trained in all genres of Dance,
Jazz is the perfect addition to our ever growing Dance family and now at 20 years old we are thrilled that she has
chosen GDA York to express her wealth of talent.
Alongside managing our Malton studio, Jaz also teaches our Jazz Technique classes in York, she is very well known
in York having attended York Scholars, Northern Ballet Academy Associates and The Midland Associates programme.
We strongly believe in a balanced blend of Experience and Youth in our teaching methods and we are delighted
to have discovered such a talented teacher to help aid the success of our many students.
Miss Catherine (Head of RAD Ballet/Lamda & Singing)
Catherine trained from the tender the age of 2 years old in Ballet and Dance, From just 10 years old she studied in York for LAMDA speech and Drama examinations in Acting and Verse Prose.
To further her training Catherine studied for 3 years with London Studio Centre under the direction of Margaret Barbieri, Anita Young and Ronald Emblem all three from the Royal Ballet and Marcia Taylor-Brooke for singing.
Whilst there Catherine performed at The Royalty Theatre, The Prince Edward, New Wimbledon, Sadlers Wells, Cochrane and The Shaw. She was also a valued member of the teaching staff at Anita Youngs School.
Following this Catherine studied with the Royal Academy of Dance for 3 years gaining her teaching qualifications.
Catherines Singing Qualifications include ABRSM to Grade 8 standard. Amongst her array of experience,
Catherine has also worked in Television, appearing with acting roles in Emmerdale, The Darling Buds of May
and Book Tower.
Catherine has now been teaching the Royal Academy of Dance and LAMDA Syllabus for 27 years in
ALL Grades and is also an IDTA teacher of Dance having studied Cecchetti ballet.
Former Pupils of Catherines have gone on to attend Tring Park, Elmhurst and White Lodge from the age of 11
years and from 16 years various colleges such as London Studio Centre, Laine Theatre Arts and Bird College.
Amongst a real wealth of experience and professionalism, Catherine is the most loveliest of people, her
teaching method and way with our students is a real pleasure to observe and we are delighted and
honoured to have such a wonderfully talented teacher educate our dancers.
Miss Ella (Assistant to the Principle)
At just 16, Ella joined Gemini Dance Academy York little more than 8 months ago and was quickly recognised
as a stunningly talented young lady. Ella is currently at Grade 8 Level Ballet and studying Dance at York
College together with her teaching
experience here at Gemini Dance Academy York. Ella Competes on our Competition circuit and has already
accomplished victories in
All of her genres just recently being crowned First place Open Supreme Champion in September.
We believe in passing on our experience and knowledge to youth and Ella embraces this superbly.
Every walk of life has Role Models and Ella is very much at the top of this list with all our dancers
learning from her and appreciating her immense work ethic.
We truly cannot wait to see Ella's further development as an artist together with her teaching and
she is an amazing addition to our fabulous team.
